Intensive Flamenco Training for Professional Canadian Male Dancers
Compañía Carmen Romero is a Spanish dance and music collective based out of Toronto, Canada. Originally founded in 1986 by Carmen Romero . The collective operates on project to project funding and have created full length productions as well as short works in film and theatre that have been showcased nationally and internationally. Artistic Director Carmen Romero has trained well over a thousand dancers and musician who are actively pursuing professional careers and have received awards for their work in Spanish Dance and music. For the first time in the history of Spanish dance and flamenco in Canada, Compañía Romero is excited to offer an intensive paid training program in Spanish Dance/Flamenco for professional Canadian male or identifying as male dancers.
This workshop is funded through the Toronto Arts Council, Ontario Arts Council and Compania Carmen Romero.
This intensive workshop is for six professional dancers who do not have any training in Spanish Dance. Dancers must have professional training in any genre as well as including ballet and contemporary dance.
This is a five day, 4 hours/day commitment with a showcase on the 5th day.
Dancers will be paid to train, earning a total of $780.00 CDN. Dancers will need to invest $200.00. into the purchase of their own flamenco shoes that will be ordered from Spain as well as a pair of castanets and a $30.00 registration fee. As per OAC guidelines, dancers are required to pay a registration fee into the training.

Dancers will receive training in dance technique, music and culture that relates to Spanish Dance.
In person audition:
Tuesday August 3rd. 2020.
Time: 12 pm. Be prepared to stay for one hour. You may arrive an hour in advance to register and warm up.
Location: Compañía Carmen Romero Studios. 228 Merton Street. Toronto. 2nd floor

Attire: Workout/dance clothes. Shoes with leather or hard sole and some kind of low heel. Character type shoe/tap is acceptable.
September 20-24. Location: Compañía Carmen Romero studios. Time: 10-2:30 (30 minute lunch break)
Covid-19 protocols. All dancers will be wearing masks on the premises. Dancers will be informed of updated information with regards to indoor attendance limitations. There may be a possibility of extending the audition time and creating groups to limit the indoor attendance.
